Spanish Beginner’s Course: Summary

This course is designed to help learners understand the core elements of the Spanish language and culture, and enable them to apply these principles within their personal life.

This is a complete beginner’s course. Students at this level: 

• Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. 
• Can introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know, and things they have. 
• Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help. 
• Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). 
• Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. 
• Can describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment, and matters in areas of immediate need. 

At the end of Level 1 (A1.1) you will be:

• Able to introduce yourself, and ask and give personal information (nationality, profession, telephone number, address, etc)
• Describe your family and its members (their physical appearance and their character)
• Describe your town
• Buy something in a shop

Grammar:

• Conjugate regular verbs in Present Tense
• Use the verbs “ser” and “estar” in different contexts
• Differentiate between “tú” y “usted”
• Identify the gender of nouns and adjectives
• Know the numbers from 0 to 1000
• Understand question words (cómo, dónde, cuándo, etc.)

Pronunciation:

• How to spell the letters and their sounds
• Split Spanish words into syllables 
• Diphthongs​, triphthongs, and four-letter complex Spanish syllables
